Kaffivik was founded in December 2018 by 3 friends who were tired of old coffee. One was tired of buying freshly roasted coffee everywhere he went, to bring it home for private use, the other was even roasting coffee at a small coffee roaster, and the third would basically have access to locally produced, freshly roasted coffee from Greenland.
Kaffivik imports raw green beans from various parts of the world, to continually toast the coffee to consumers, whether it is for the private consumer who wants a good cup of coffee, or a café that offers customers locally-produced coffee, or whether it is for a workplace that wants to give its employees a better coffee experience.
We emphasize producing high quality coffee in different flavors - this means that we roast the same coffee bean in different roasting degrees, to give different flavors. At present, we work with four different degrees of roasting:
What most coffee drinkers do not know is that the coffee is tastefully on top for up to 3-4 weeks after a roast, then goes downhill for the taste because the oils in the roasted coffee bean dry out.
Therefore, it is important to look for when a coffee is roasted and not what is the last shelf life. Too often the coffee is durable for 12 months after roasting, but tastefully it will not be at the top, at the end of its shelf life. That is precisely why it makes a huge difference that we have our own raw beans and roast the coffee locally here in Greenland, so what we deliver is always fresh, freshly roasted coffee of very high quality.
